Measuring Your Ring Size

Measuring Your Ring Size

Ring Sizes

What is ring size?

The Ring sizes are numbers linked with the diameter or circumference of the inside of the ring’s band. It is often measured in terms of Ring size in mm, cm or inches. Different country has different system of numbers or letters to define general standard of measuring the ring. Different country follow USA, UK and European ring size standards as mentioned in below table as per their geographic locations.

Getting the right Ring size is extremely important since you can’t risk losing it because of the imperfect fit! A wide “comfort-fit” ring is easier to slide on your fingers than a ring with a flat inner surface.

Are you planning to give a ring as a gift to your special someone? Or you wanted to buy one for yourself and its your first time.

If you're shopping for someone else, the best way to find his or her ring size is to ask. If you're planning a surprise, get help from friends and family. They can ask without raising any eyebrows. The average ring size available for women ranges from size 3 to size 9. The most commonly purchased women's rings range between size 5 and size 7. Size 6 is the most popular. The average ring size available for men ranges from size 6 to size 13. The most commonly purchased men's rings range between size 8 to 10-½. Size 9 is the most popular.

Ways to quickly find your ring size

Method 1: Measure the inside diameter of a ring you already own

  • Check the table above in the "Inner Diameter of Ring (mm)" column to find your ring size.

That sounds pretty easy but it's not always around the tool to measure with precision the ring diameter.

Method 2:  Use our printable ring size guide

Download and print our simple ring size guide and place a ring over the ring circles and match the inner diameter to find your the ring size. Though there’s room for error because paper templates are subject to slipping, we’ve created this handy ring sizer guide as well. So long as you follow the directions closely and are extra careful, it should give you a pretty good idea of your ring size. Just make sure you’re printing at 100% scale (not “stretched to fit”), and double check the measuring tool on the printed PDF with a physical ruler or using a credit card. Also included in the guide is a printable finger measuring strip to help with an accurate size. Please note that this is only a guide and won't take into account the style of your ring. For example, if you are choosing a ring with a wide band, you may need a larger size. If you're in doubt, seek help from your local jeweller.

Method 3:  Measure the circumference of your finger

You can use string or floss to wrap around a ring finger and mark it with a pen to get the length which you can then measure with a ruler. Bear in mind with this, that string can stretch, so don't stress it much. If you do, your measured ring finger size may be larger than your finger actually is, and any rings you purchase may be too big.

Follow these steps for measuring:

  • Measure your finger by wrapping around it snugly with measuring tape. If you don't have measuring tape, you can use string/floss or even paper, and measure against a ruler
  • Make sure your fingers are at a "normal" size when you measure them. As we mentioned fingers shrink a bit in cold weather, and they swell after you've had alcohol, after you've exercised, when you're in hot weather, and when you're generally bloated
  • Don't forget that If your knuckle is particularly big, you may want to choose a bigger ring size so that the ring can fit over the knuckle
  • Finally check the table above in the "Finger Circumference (mm)" column to find your ring size

Helpful Ring Sizing Tips:

Measuring your finger may seem simple, but there are quite a few things that can result in an inaccurate measurement. Here are our some tips to help with whatever option you choose for ring sizing:

  1. Fingers expand and contract depending on the temperature. It might sound silly but bear that in mind if you're measuring a finger after walking out in the cold or in a hot summer day measurement will vary.
  2. If your knuckle is much larger than your finger’s base, take two separate measurements of both and choose a size in between. A ring should slide over the knuckly but not be too loose to slider around the finger.
  3. Of course, measure the finger you plan on wearing the ring :)
  4. If you feel like you’re between sizes, order a half-size up. It’s always better to have a slightly larger ring to accommodate for that hot summer days!
  5. Wider band rings compared to a dainty ring won't slip so easy over your knuckle so you may want to increase the ring size. Try to order a half size larger than you normally would for rings that are 2mm or thicker.
  6. We offer rings with open bands which are adjustable. In those rings you will be able to slightly adjust the fit, but it's better not  go over half size or so as it will affect the look and the merchanical properties of the ring.

    Extra hint!

Want to remember your ring size? Print out this image and write down your sizes on all the fingers, take a photo and save it, after that you are all set and no more ring size fuzz.
