Jewelry Metals

Each one of our pieces may have options of different materials to choose from. What metal is best for you and your piece is entirely up to you.

We always try to use high-quality materials that are built to last. Below you will find a quck description on each type of metal we offer. Click on the title for further metal info.

Sterling Silver 925

Sterling silver consists of 92.5% pure silver (explaining why it's referred to as "925 Sterling Silver") and is a precious metal. The other 7.5% of the alloy is usually copper, giving extra strength to the metal. The reason silver needs to be combined with other metals is that it is very difficult to make great designs with just pure silver, which is very soft and malleable.

Heavy Gold Plated

The thickness of gold indicated by the term 'gold-plated' can vary greatly among jewelers. Our pieces have at least a 1 micron thick 14k gold layer for durability, which may not sounds a lot , but for reference many gold plated jewelry have 1/10th of that thickness. The base metal can be either brass or silver.

  • Gold Vermeil
Vermeil is composed of a thick layer of gold plating over solid sterling silver. It’s the thickness of the gold and the sterling silver base that differentiates this option from gold-plating. The jewelry has to be plated at least 1 - 2.5 microns thick (micron = 1/1000th of a millimeter). The karats (ex: 14k - 18k) in the plating process determines the color of the gold. For example, 14k will be a more subtle yellow tone while the 24k would be a deep yellow. Our pieces are plated with 14k or 18k gold which is the best yellow hue , and they meet the industry standards dor durability.

14k Gold Filled

Unlike solid gold jewelry, gold-filled jewelry is composed of a solid layer of gold that is bonded to a base of another metal, such as brass. To make gold-fill jewelry, multiple layers of solid gold are pressure-bonded to a core of high-quality jeweler’s brass using extreme heat. The result is a thick layer of real gold and a durable, long-lasting product. Gold-filled is not an alloy. Single clad gold-filled has all the gold content in a single layer on one side. Double clad material splits the gold content into surface layers on both sides of the material. While gold-filled jewelry is typically less expensive than solid gold jewelry, it can be actually more durable, looking shiny and new even with decades of wear.

14k Rose Gold-Filled

Rose gold-filled is the same as gold-filled material, except a bit of copper is added to the alloy to give it its classic rosy colour.
